On Friday, Ireland and Wales locked horns in what was tipped to be an exciting affair. However, the game was marred in sadness after Seamus Coleman broke his leg from a nasty tackle.
The Everton defender, who was wearing the captain’s armband in the 0-0 draw, suffered a horrendous challenge from Neil Taylor which left his right leg in a grotesque condition. Coleman had to be stretchered off the pitch, whilst being administered oxygen, before being taken directly to hospital.
A complete diagnosis has been revealed, and it spells worse news for the Toffees defender. As reported by the Telegraph, he suffered a double leg break – in the tibia and fibula bones in his lower right leg.
Seamus was written down for an operation on Saturday morning, with the player needing screws to be inserted. The road to recovery will sadly be long for the 28-year-old.

His season is expectedly over, but he will remain on the sidelines for at least six months. This means that Coleman might only return to the pitch when the 2017/18 season is in full swing.
Meanwhile, Taylor continues to receive criticism for his reckless tackle that led to this awful injury. The Aston Villa defender was shown a straight red, and was condemned on Twitter by Wayne Rooney and Wilfried Zaha for the “horrible” and “disgusting” challenge.
