Recent reports favor Antoine Griezmann joining Manchester United. The Red Devils have reportedly already agreed personal terms, as Atletico Madrid look set to lose their star attacker.
However, Chelsea wish to pip Jose Mourinho’s side to the French star. According to Spanish football expert Graham Hunter, the Blues are plotting a player-plus-cash bid in order to beat Man United to his signature.
And according to Hunter, the player Chelsea are offering is none other than Diego Costa. The Spaniard has been dominating the headlines after a recent bust-up with Antonio Conte, with his future now in doubt thanks to a bid from China.
The interest in Griezmann is no surprise; he won rave reviews in 2016 for his displays for both club and country. His heroics earned him a nomination in the three-man shortlist for FIFA’s The Best Men’s Player award, though he came in last.
Hunter told Football Whispers: “"The current [rumour] is that because Costa and Chelsea seem to have fallen out and Cholo Simeone wants Costa back the possibility of Griezmann to Chelsea increases in the summer because a player-plus-cash swap is on the cards."
This deal would be win-win for both Chelsea and Atletico. Although there are question marks as to whether he can cope with the physicality of the Premier League, Griezmann is a world-class attacker.
Costa admitted that he was close to a return to Los Rojiblancos over the summer. He could now reunite with Diego Simeone and the club that helped him rise to fame.
