England international forward Jamie Vardy has opened up about the previous transfer speculations that had linked him with a move to the Emirates Stadium over the summer. The 29-year-old was one of the key players who steered the Foxes to their historic league title last season, having fallen three goals short of winning the golden boot award.
It was his dazzling performances for Claudio Ranieri’s side last season that captured the attention of top clubs in Europe but Arsenal seemed to have been on the frontline to land his signature. The speedy winger confirmed in his autobiography as quoted by The Sun:
"Arsenal triggered the release clause in my Leicester contract - giving me a huge decision to make.
"I tried to work out the pros and cons.
"With people like Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil creating chances, Arsenal felt they could benefit me as much as I could them.
"But I also thought about the tactical aspect.
"You look at Arsenal's style of play and they don’t get the ball forward quickly in the same way Leicester do for those runs I like to make in behind the defence.
"One thing that didn't worry me was the idea that I wouldn't be the 'main man' at Arsenal. "Every time I've moved, I've managed to meet the challenge in front of me.’’

But the former Fleetwood Town player has been struggling to rediscover last season’s form that made him one of the most lethal forwards in the Premier League. So dangerous he was in front of goal that he broke Ruud Van Nistelrooy’s record when he scored in 11 consecutive league games. But so far this season, he has only found the back of the net twice, with Leicester struggling to keep up with the title race. He continued:
"We even looked at new schools for the children, but I got to the stage where I felt with my heart and head that I wanted to stay at Leicester.
"It wasn't to do with 'loyalty' or how I feel about my team-mates. Players always come and go.
"It was more a case of seeing Leicester as a club that wanted to build on what we achieved with the title and I want to be part of that.
"I'm happy with how everything has turned out."
