Real Madrid to overcome poor away record vs. BVB?

It’s odd that a club as big as Real Madrid have been unable to win at the Signal Iduna Park, but this is the truth that Les Merengues’ atrocious record away to Borussia Dortmund reveals.

The record 11-time Champions League winners have made the trip to Westfalenstadion on five occasions, but not once have the Spanish giants come out with all three points.

Their first two visits – in 1997/98 and 2002/03 – ended in 1-1 draws. Their next three trips all ended in defeats, the most famous being the 4-1 loss in the semi-final in 2012/13. Robert Lewandowski scored a super hat-trick in that game.

The Polish hitman is no longer with Die Schwarzgelben, but the 2-0 win in 13/14 proves that Thomas Tuchel can pull off a victory regardless.

Zinedine Zidane, though, can be forgiven for feeling confident. His decision to take off Cristiano Ronaldo during the 2-2 draw with Las Palmas, though unpopular, could prove decisive. A fit Cristiano firing at all cylinders is unstoppable.

Unfortunately, Real Madrid’s biggest worry is in midfielder, as they will be without defensive midfielder Casemiro for the remainder of this year. Elsewhere, Marcelo is also out, but Pepe and Coentrao are fit.

Tuchel also has a few worries, as he waits on news of Marc Bartra and Andrian Ramos’ fitness. Both missed the recent win over Freiburg and will undergo a late test.

Star striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang picked up a slight knock in Friday’s win, but is hopeful of featuring on Tuesday.
