Gerard Pique’s attempt to undermine Real Madrid’s groundbreaking 11th Champions League title did not go under the radar at the Bernabeu, with manager Zinedine Zidane responding to the Spaniard’s controversial remarks.
Infamous for trolling the Blaugrana's Clasico rivals, the Spaniard mocked Los Blancos' path to last season’s European crown when asked what kind of group he wanted for the upcoming Champions League campaign. He tweeted:
“An easy group. Facing Italy's 3rd team in the Round of 16, the 8th team in the Bundesliga, semis vs England's 4th team, and second legs always at home.”

Many felt that Cristiano and Co. were gifted an easy ride to the final in 2015/16 before beating Atletico in Milan, as they faced Roma, Wolfsburg, and Man City en route to the ultimate game.
However, Zizou has hit back at those claims, insisting that his boys worked hard to fight off “tough” competition for the European crown last term. The French manager said (as per beIN Sports):
"He has his view, his opinion. We won the Champions League, we battled hard, it was tough.
"Over the course of a Champions League it's very demanding. He said they won the league and are the best team in Spain. If you win the league you have got the right to say that.
"It's a new season. It's not just Barca and Madrid, there are lots of teams in the hunt. We will prepare well and hopefully this year it will change."
The draw for the new Champions League season was held on Thursday, with the Spanish Primera Division champions being grouped with Manchester City, Borussia Monchengladbach, and Celtic.
Pique can rest assured that Real Madrid won’t have it easy, as Les Merengues were paired against Borussia Dortmund, Sporting Lisbon, and Legia Warsaw.
