Despite having managed to fend off interest in star striker Jamie Vardy, Leicester have not been able with their strides to keep Riyad Mahrez at the King Power Stadium.
The Algerian midfield wizard and last season’s PFA Player of the Year winner played a pivotal role in the club’s English Premier League title success in 2015/16. However, his run with the Foxes appears to have reached its end.
This is according to France Football who claim that the 25-year-old sensation has already made up his made on searching pastures new in favor of Europe’s bigger clubs.
Surprisingly, manager Claudio Ranieri was only quoted two days ago as saying that Mahrez is happy and ready to stay with the English Premier League champions: The Italian said (as per the Leicester Mercury):
“I am very confident with [Mahrez]. He stays. He wants to stay here with us. He enjoys it, he is laughing. He is not a man who says ‘oh coach, I want to go.’ No, he is happy.”
Should Mahrez leave, his departure will come as a huge blow to Leicester, having scored 17 goals and assisted 11 in the previous season.
Furthermore, the Algerian isn’t the only midfield ace linked with an exit. According to a recent report, Frenchman N’Golo Kante has already sealed his transfer, putting pen to paper on a five year deal with London giants Chelsea.
