There was also no room on the 23-man list for Bayer Leverkusen’s Karim Bellarabi.

Marco Reus’ misfortunes with the national side continues, as it was announced on Tuesday that the BVB superstar will not travel with the German squad for the upcoming Euro 2016 tournament, due to kick off next month.

To make things worse, the announcement of his exclusion comes on the day he turns 27, as his birthday was met with awful news. This will be the second time he misses out on a major tournament, having been ruled out of the 2014 World Cup through injury.

And the culprit is, once again, a lack of fitness, thogh this time Reus is suffering of health problems rather than injury, according to head coach Joachim Low. The World Cup-winning boss also expressed his disappointment in seeing the BVB ace miss out, having scored 20 goals in 2015/16 for Thomas Touchel’s crew.

“He has huge health problems and can only run straight at the moment,” said Low, as per The Guardian.

"It's a bitter decision, for us and for him. He would have been an asset," the Germany boss added.

Reus wasn’t the only established Bundesliga name to miss out on a call-up, as Bayer Leverkusen ace Karim Bellarabi was snubbed, as well as team-mate Julian Brandt and Hoffenheim midfielder Sebastian Rudy.

Fortunately for the European heavyweights, influential captain Bastian Schweinsteiger made the cut, despite struggling with a knee injury which ruled him out towards the end of the season.
