The rivalry between two La Liga giants Real Madrid and Barcelona seems to have reached a whole new level. This was quite evident last weekend after Los Blancos’ 3-2 win over Valencia. As their second-choice shot stopper Kiko Casilla was answering different questions from journalists, one particular journalist from Catalunya Radio asked him a question in Catalan, and then requested him to respond in Catalan.
It should be noted that Catalan is the official language of the people from Catalonia, the home of FC Barcelona. By virtue of being a former Espanyol player, a club based in Catalonia, Casilla is a fluent speaker of the language.
Just when he was about to respond to the question in Catalan, a Real Madrid press officer interrupted and asked him to respond in Spanish.
Watch the interview below:
The incident attracted the wrath of Barcelona fans, who accused the Santiago Bernabeu outfit of violating their player’s freedom of speech and expression. Here are some reactions on Twitter:
After today’s La Liga match, Real’s goalie Kiko Casilla was not allowed to reply in Catalan to a question from a Catalan reporter.

Worst people in world football.
Real Madrid didn't let Kiko Casilla, a Catalan, speak his language. They refused him to answer a question in Catalan https://t.co/HRJkNaqT8Y
