Bayern Munich have twice prized rivals BVB of their biggest players – Mario Gotze in 2013 and Robert Lewandowski in 2014.
As a result, news that the reigning Bundesliga champions have begun talks with yet another high-profile name at Signal Iduna Park may break the fans’ hearts.
According to Bild, the Bavarians have instigated negotiations with club captain Mats Hummels, with the center-back having been linked with an Allianz Arena switch over the last few days over comments made by the player and his father.
The 27-year-old star defender is entering the final year of his BVB contract, with the German tabloid reporting that the 2014 World Cup winner could cost Bayern €30m.
Pep Guardiola’s side aren’t the only ones after Hummels, with Barca, Arsenal, and Man United also keen on the Mannschaft ace.
However, BILD claims that the player has decided against a Camp Nou switch, whilst the Gunners and the Red Devils may not be able to offer him silverware and success in Europe that Bayern can offer.
According to the report, BVB are interested in including former midfielder Mario Gotze – currently struggling to tie down a spot in the starting eleven – in a player-plus-cash deal that will see the 23-year-old return to Westfalenstadion.
However, whether Bayern will accept this proposal and allow their German midfielder – linked with a reunion with Klopp at Liverpool – an escape route remains unknown.
