Liverpool are preparing to face yet another acid test when they play Manuel Pellegrini's men at Anfield on Wednesday.

Liverpool face Manchester City for the second time in less than a week. The Citizens beat The Reds on post match penalties on Sunday to clinch the Capital One Cup at the Wembley Stadium, and on Wednesday, they will be hoping to revenge the loss by beating the Manchester side at Anfield. Although a win for The Reds will not completely make their fans forget the Capital One Cup loss, it will give them the much-needed three points that every team in the league is fighting for.

Manchester City sit at the fourth position on the log, nine points behind league leaders Leicester City. Although their title hopes are quite slim, they will want to pick maximum points in order to pile more pressure on the top three teams.

With the arrival of Pep Guardiola at the Etihad Stadium next season already confirmed, City will be comfortable with at least a top four finish in order to restart their race to win some major trophies in the new season under the super tactician. On the other hand, Liverpool are in need of a win that could catapult them to the seventh position on the log if Southampton and Stoke City lose their respective fixtures.

The hosts come into this match having registered only one win in their last six fixtures in all competitions. They have won twice, lost thrice and drawn once. On the other hand, Man City have drawn thrice, lost once and won twice in their last six games in all competitions.

Team news

Man City

Joe Hart is expected to return between the posts, as Jesus Navas hopes to feature in the hunt for goals. Fernandinho could continue providing support at the right wing like he did on Sunday at Wembley.
