When Cristiano Ronaldo informed reporters that he knew exactly why Lionel Messi passed the famous penalty to Luis Suarez during their La Liga match against Celta Vigo, some fans and pundits actually thought that he was jealous of the on-form duo.

However, Spanish publication Mundo Deportivo reports that there was some truth in Ronaldo’s revelations. The newspaper claims that there is a master scheme at the Catalan giants to ensure that the former Liverpool man appears on the Ballon d’Or podium next January. The Uruguay international was conspicuously missing from this year’s Ballon d’Or award gala, despite being in sensational form for the Blaugrana.
With the presence of Messi and Neymar in next year’s gala almost guaranteed, the two are allegedly plotting to squeeze Suarez in, even if it means creating assists out of nothing. If Messi, Suarez and Neymar, who make up the famous attacking trio of MSN, appear as the last three finalists of next year’s Ballon d’Or, they would have successfully kicked Ronaldo out of the annual award gala. The master plan therefore is to ensure all Barcelona players appear as the final nominees and this can only happen if they keep the Portuguese and other possible threats out of the picture. This also explains why the Uruguayan was given the penalty kick against Sporting Gijon last week, which he embarrassingly missed.
