Barcelona star Lionel Messi has refused to rule out a move to English Premier League giants Manchester City or their French counterparts Paris Saint-Germain.
The 5-time Ballon d’Or winner revealed that although he wanted to stay at Barcelona for the longest time, anything could happen in the world of football. The Argentine was speaking during an interview with France Football (as reported by SportWitness)
In the recent months, the 28-year-old has been linked with a record-breaking move to the Etihad Stadium, which would eventually make him the highest paid footballer in the world. The English giants are reportedly willing to splash a shocking £800,000 a week salary for the football genius, or even more, should he decide to join them.
Speaking about the recent rumours that he would retire at the Spanish club, Messi responded:
“In football, anything can happen, but my idea and my desire is to stay [at Barcelona].”
Asked about a possible move Man City or PSG, he added:
“Once again, anything can happen in football, but I’m sure about what I want, and what I want is to stay here, in Barcelona.”
Barcelona president Josep Maria Bartomeu had earlier mentioned that Leo would retire from European football and join his boyhood club Newell’s Old Boys in Argentina. Leo has scored 10 goals in 14 La Liga appearances for the Catalans this season.
