With four points each in Group B, Germany and Norway are both on the brink of booking tickets for the knockout stages at the 2015 FIFA Women's World Cup.

The German machine got off to good start through Anja Mittag's 6th minute opener. However, series of unsuccessful passes denied them from increasing their lead as Norway found ways to stabilize their defensive line.

Just a couple of minutes before half-time, the Norwegians came to life. First, it was Isabell Herlovesen whose unstoppable dribble followed up with a powerful shot to test goalkeeper Nadine Angerer. However, the reigning FIFA Women's Player of the Year winner rose to the challenge to punch the ball for a corner. Striker Ada Hegerber then tried her luck but her header flew just over the bar, much to the anxiety of Norway's supporters and the relief of the Germans.

Fifty-eight minutes into the game, the losing team thought they'd won a penalty when their number 9 striker fell to the ground inside the box but the referee pointed for a free-kick on the edge. Seek and you shall find. Maren Mjelde stepped up and curled the ball over the wall and into the back of the net. Game on!

Until then, the Germans had looked quite complacent. That was just what the game needed to set the crowd on fire. Throughout the remainder of the match, both sides had a fair amount of chances to clinch three points but none of the two goalies conceded again.

Silvia Neid reflected on the outcome, stating at the post-match press conference:

"We played a really good first half. I think we did everything right however we failed to take our chances to score two or three goals. When you have a tough opponent, things happen fast and all of a sudden it's 1-1."

At 1-1, Germany and Norway both count four points from a maximum six. They've also taken a huge step towards qualification for the next round as Thailand and Ivory Coast are visibly weak and wounded following heavy defeats on Matchday 1.
