The former centerback is being accused of forging checks paid to players during his administration as River Plate's president.

Former River Plate's president, player and legend Daniel Passarella, may end up serving jail time on the charge of fraud, according to the club's legal advisor, Ignacio Villarroel.

River Plate's owners partnership unanimously voted in favor of bringing Passarella to justice, after his stint as Club's president, citing a number of "irregularities" in "El Kaiser's" administration.

"We, as River Plate's representatives, demand Daniel Passarella to respond for any wrongdoing during his administration. He has to be held responsible, because as the club's president, he had a say in every major decision," attorney Villarroel told the press.

Passarella is accused of forging player's signatures in 26 checks, which were cashed in by eleven River Plate players. The club's attorney ellaborated on what would be the punishment on Passarella, if he is guilty as charged:

"If the judge finds out he is guilty, he could serve up to six years in a federal prison. That's up to the judge to decide, but we want someone to pay for this situation," Villarroel stated.

Passarella, former coach and player for Los Millonarios, became River Plate's president in 2009. Two years after winning the election, River Plate was relegated to the Primera B Nacional category, returning to Argentinian top-flight football a year later.
