About
Kompas TV history, coverage, features
KompasTV is an Indonesian television company owned and operated by KG Media. The channel was initially launched on a trial period that began on August 1, 2011. The channel would officially go live on September 9, 2011. It is named after Kompas, one of the most popular newspapers in the country.
Over the years, KompasTV changed its approach from being a general entertainment channel to a news-only network. Children’s programming and drama series were part of the channel’s grid, but news and sports ended up taking most of the screen time available on this network.
Speaking about sports, KompasTV has been able to air disciplines such as football, badminton, volleyball, and motorsports. When it comes to football, KompasTV was able to air live games for competitions such as the Bundesliga and the Serie A thanks to their partnership with beIN Sports.
KompasTV was launched as a Standard Definition channel, but it added a High-Definition feed to its offer in 2017, becoming one of the first Indonesian channels to work with such technology. A downscaled version of the channel might be available via some pay-tv carriers for those users who do not have access to that technology.
