UEFA has revealed the official Champions League Year of 2016.

European football governing body UEFA has revealed a list of 11 players who have been voted as the best players in the Champions League in 2016. The list, which was published on their website and social media pages, was compiled after counting votes from UEFA.com users.

The voting process

There were 649,701 votes counted, with Real Madrid attracting the most number of online voters by 24%. Their rivals, Barcelona, came second with 16% of the total votes cast. Premier League giants Manchester United came third with 6% of the total votes despite failing to qualify for the Champions League while the fourth spot was sealed by Italian bigwigs Juventus who had 5% of the votes. North London side Arsenal sealed the top five list with 4% of the votes.

UEFA's Best XI

The list features Juventus goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon between the sticks, with Sergio Ramos (Real Madrid), Gerard Pique (Barcelona), Jerome Boateng (Bayern Munich) and Leonardo Bonucci (Juventus).

Andres Iniesta (Barcelona), Toni Kroos (Real Madrid) and Luka Modric (Real Madrid) take charge of the center of the park. In attack, three of the greatest players on the planet, Lionel Messi (Barcelona), Antoine Griezmann (Atletico Madrid) and Cristiano Ronaldo (Real Madrid) come into play.

The voting process has exposed one factor that can no longer be ignored - the absence of Premier League players. The UCL squad is basically a battle between Real Madrid and Barcelona, with Juventus, Atletico Madrid, and Bayern trying to squeeze the way into the fight. The latest revelation by UEFA is set to reignite the debate regarding the strongest league in Europe but judging from the results, La Liga still wins with Real Madrid being represented by four players compared to Barca's three.
