Preview: Milan vs Roma
After their disappointment in the Coppa Italia against Juventus, Milan bounced back with a vengeance as they crushed struggling Lecce 4-1 in their first Serie A game since the league resumed action following the COVID-19 induced pause. Stefano Pioli's side sit in eighth, but clearly haven't given up hope of securing a Europa League football spot, and with plenty of matches to play between now and the end of the season, the Rossoneri are not out of the running, either.
Milan have been dealt a blow due to the absence of veteran striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic who has been out with a calf injury for some time and has failed to shake it off. Nonetheless, Croatian international Ante Rebic has had a strong season, and has netted seven goals so far for Pioli's squad in 2020, including one against Lecce recently.
Still, Roma also have ambitions of also securing at least a Europa League spot. The Giallorossi also picked up a win in their first game back after three months in action, with Edin Dzeko's brace enough to dispatch Sampdoria and keep the Lupi firmly in fifth spot. That makes it three wins on the spin for Paulo Fonseca's side, who will be looking to do a double over the Diavolo when they arrive at the Stadio San Siro on Sunday.
Although Atalanta are the clear favorites to win their game against Udinese, Roma still likely haven't given up hopes of potentially breaking into the top four if La Dea stumble at some point, and so picking up maximum points against every single opponent - whether they sit in the bottom or top half of the table - is the most obvious way to ensure they have a shot at possibly qualifying for Champions Leauge football.
