The USWNT will step foot in France at the 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup as reigning world champions and back-to-back CONCACAF Women’s Championship titleholders.

Another duel against the United States, another failure to win for Canada. On Wednesday night at the Toyota Stadium, Jill Ellis' side reigned supreme. With three times more shots on goal than their opponents who managed only four, and five times more shots on target – the first of which resulted in a 2nd minute goal by Lavelle – the USWNT were hands down the better team. 

The Canadians opted to play a more physical game and were almost rewarded for their resilience with an equalizer. However, the collection of yellow cards forced Christine Sinclair and company to slow it down. Rebecca Catherine Quinn was the last of four Canadian players to be booked. It happened in the 69th minute. The next half an hour was an arduous task and even the second half introduction of goal poacher Adriana Leon could not create more attacking chances for the 2015 FIFA Women's World Cup hosts. 

Alex Morgan finished off Canada's hopes in controversial fashion as her 89th minute strike was at least a yard offside. While it's unsure how the officials managed to miss that play, the fact remains that Morgan's goal stood making her the 2018 CONCACAF Women's Championship's topscorer. 

That was her 97th career goal in only 151 appearances. By netting seven times in this year's tournament, the 29-year-old attacker matched the achievement of USWNT legend Abby Wambach who scored as many goals in the 2014 edition.

The runners-up's inability to score at the other end of the field means that the Americans concluded their campaign with a remarkable clean sheet record while hitting a massive amount of 26 goals in five matches. A fourth Women's World Cup trophy is now the only thing on their minds.
