After nine rounds, Ligue 1 takes yet another break as the second international hiatus is now upon us. Matchday nine, though, certainly did not fail to impress as there were plenty of goals scored all around France's top football tier, and as a result, plenty of records were set and broken along the way.

Thomas Tuchel's men arguably have gotten off to their best start ever, and the stats prove it. Let's have a look at what took place over matchday nine and how PSG - and their rising star - made history along the way.

Nine games, nine wins: Can anyone stop PSG?

It does not look like it at this point. On Sunday, PSG took on Lyon, a team who have struggled on the road (Les Gones had not won any of their away games this season) but were pretty solid at home. All eyes were on this fixture, as Les Parisiens have won their first eight games and in doing so, had matched a historical record dating back to the 1936/1937 season.

PSG had no problems setting a new record as they cruised to a 5-0 win over Lyon, and now are the first team ever to win nine straight Ligue 1 games to start a campaign.

Kylian Mbappe's stock continues to rise

At 19, Mbappe is certainly the most talented young player in the game today, and the former Monaco starlet cemented that status with a fantastic performance for France at the World Cup. His well-deserved goal for Les Bleus against surprise finalists Croatia helped France secure their second World Cup title and made him the second youngest teenager, after Pele, to net in a World Cup final.

And he's showing no signs of slowing down just yet, as he netted a poker against Lyon to write his name in the history books. Remember Robert Lewandowski's five goal show against Wolfsburg a few seasons back? Well, one could make a case as to why Mbappe's multi-goal haul arguably is even more impressive and here are two reasons why:

Of course, Bayern fans may take exception with that argument, though!

The best duo on the planet at the moment?

Certainly, Neymar and Mbappe could make a great argument for that, especially for the form the Brazilian superstar and the French starlet are in at the moment. Both were in great form against Lyon at the weekend, and this stat certainly could bolster their claim:

Now, if they could replicate that same great form in the Champions League - a tournament PSG are really hoping to make their mark in this season - Les Parisiens could go a long way towards establishing themselves as favorites in Europe's premier club competition. 

Of course, Ligue 1 is not all about PSG, although certainly Les Parisiens arguably were the highlight of the round. Nonetheless, other players and other teams made their marks - both for good and bad reasons. Here are two of the most notable examples from matchday nine.

In some impressive company

Ever heard of Nicolas Pepe? Well, perhaps his name should become a little more familiar to you after his exploits so far for Lille this season. PSG are running away with the league title at the moment, but a look at the Ligue 1 standings will reveal who's in second at the moment and it is not Monaco.

It's Lille. After nine rounds, Les Dogues, who barely escaped relegation last season after finishing in 17th, are in second spot, and Nicolas Pepe, who was born in France, but plays his international football for the Ivory Coast, has been a huge part of the team's impressive performances this season.

With five goals and four assists so far, he has been directly involved in nine goals for his team, or over 50 per cent of his team's total. And that puts him in some very impressive company:

In dire straits

Meanwhile, at the opposite end of the table, Nantes continue to flounder. They sit in 19th spot, joint tied with Monaco on six points and only ahead of Guingamp, who sit in 20th place. What certainly will be of utmost concern, though, is where they are at this juncture and what it means for the club:

Who can blame the club and their fans, then, for having a real sense of foreboding?
