Head coach of La Celeste Oscar Tabarez is putting measures in place to deal with the efficiency of Cristiano Ronaldo in their upcoming Round of 16 clash. The 71-year-old’s side kept a clean sheet in their group stage matchups and are currently on a five-game run without conceding a single goal.
Nevertheless, there is a huge cause for concern coming up against Cristiano Ronaldo on Saturday. The 33-year-old forward has already scored four of Portugal’s five World Cup goals and is just one goal short of tying with the competiton’s top scorer Harry Kane.
As a result, Oscar Tabarez is aiming to task the whole Uruguay team with the responsibility of getting a grip on the Seleccao marksman having admitted that a single player cannot do the job.
“I believe that Cristiano Ronaldo is one of the best strikers in the world,” he stated in his pre-match press conference.
“What Ronaldo has on top of all of these qualities is that he’s the leader of that team. That is an additional factor.
“There’s not a single player who can contain him. Not just Godin. We will have to work collectively in order to try and limit the effect that he can have.”
