Arsenal attacker Alexis Sanchez has taken to Instagram, writing a heartfelt message in the wake of his national team’s 1-0 defeat to Bolivia. In his post, the 28-year-old talks about his responsibility to always deliver and the painful criticism he receives when things don’t go well.
This comes after Chile suffered a defeat in their last World Cup qualifier of the recent international break. The loss leaves La Roja in sixth and in serious danger of missing out on Russia 2018.
He wrote: "You get tired of being criticized with reason and without reason, you get tired of wanting to be defeated, you get tired of saying to yourself "I'll get up again" after crying after a defeat, and you get tired of telling the world and people who are with you, that everything is going well.
"And the worst, that no one ever realises how that makes you feel. I have the No 7 of Chile on my back and it is a huge responsibility, that's why I'm sorry that journalists and bad people criticise without knowing.”
The loss to Bolivia was their second consecutive defeat. The Copa America champions previously lost 3-0 to Paraguay and now sit outside the play-off spot.
Arsenal fans could also be worried after this post. "I'll get up again after crying after a defeat, and you get tired of telling the world and people who are with you, that everything is going well” could be seen as a reference to the Gunners, who have suffered embarrassing defeats after embarrassing defeats during the Chilean’s time in north London.
Sanchez’s desire to leave Arsenal was no kept secret. The former Barca wanted to reunite with Pep Guardiola and was left frustrated after the FA Cup champions blocked his move to Man City.
