Manchester City midfielder Fernandinho has dismissed claims that he brushed shoulders with one of the greatest footballers of the 21st century – Lionel Messi – on Wednesday. There were rumors doing round in some sections of the media that the Brazilian and the Argentine were involved in an altercation after their Champions League clash at the Etihad.

The Citizens won the match 3-1 and afterwards, Spanish outlet Marca published a story claiming that an unnamed City player called out to Messi: "Idiot, come here and show yourself!’’ The reports were further fueled by additional rumors on social media that it was the Brazilian playmarker who said those words.
But the 31-year-old later posted a statement on his official Twitter account denouncing the claims. Here is the full statement:
