Long gone are the days when backing Man City to win the English Premier League by a mile was the obvious bet. Five wins in his first five games had many backing Pep Guardiola to guide the Citizens to the title that has evaded them for the last two seasons.
A run of poor results – three league games without a win – has seen their rivals catch up. Now Arsenal and Liverpool sit level with Man City on points, whilst Chelsea and Tottenham are only one behind.
All is not well at the Etihad. So much is the desperation at Man City, that Pep hinted he may return to the transfer window to sign a giant -- literally -- claiming a tall forward might be the solution.
Aguero and Co. travel to West Brom on Saturday knowing a win is a must if they wish to avoid a downward spiral which may douse their title challenge. Luckily, they boast an impressive record against the Baggies.
In addition, the former Bayern and Barca tactician could be boosted by positive fitness news regarding Kevin de Bruyne and Pablo Zabaleta. The Belgian ace will face a late test to declare whether he’s fit to play, whilst the Argentine – also facing a test – has all but recovered from the foot injury that has sidelined him for the last two games.
Tony Pulis, similarly, will be boosted by the return of a key player, as he welcomes back Jonny Evans from suspension. Claudio Yacob, on the other hand, is ineligible to play after amassing five yellow cards this season.
Saido Berahino – deemed overweight – continues to regain fitness in order to be considered for selection. The Englishman remains in exile, though, despite their four-game winless run.
