Team news

Monaco

Leonardo Jardim's side have started this season off well, including picking up a 3-1 win over title rivals PSG last month and crushing Metz 7-0 in what so far is the higest-scoring game this season. Thanks to some excellent investments in this summer's transfer market, Monaco are hoping to finally end PSG's reign as the top side in France, but come into this game off the back of a loss to Toulouse. This sees them now tied on points with Les Parisiens, and naturally they will look to close the gap on leaders Nice by defeating Montpellier later today.

Monaco were unfortunate to have to settle for a one-all draw with Russian outfit CSKA Moscow in Champions League action earlier this week. With a long trip back and the resulting travel effects, Jardim may have to rotate his squad for this game. In terms of personnel, the hosts are missing both Nabil Dirar and Almamy Touré due to injury, whilst Radamel Falcao is in doubt for this match due to a concussion suffered a few weeks ago.

Montpellier

Montpellier will be hoping to take advantage of the likely fatigue Monaco are sufferig after their exertions in Russia and the long trip back home. They indeed have had a difficult term, and in fact, only won their second game of this campaign last Friday when they edged out Caen 3-2. Unfortunately, the visitors were dealt a major blow when Casimir Ninga, who had been on an impressive goal-scoring run, suffered an injury during training and is set to be out for the long-term.

Coach Frédéric Hantz will also have to make do without Steve Mounié due to suspension, and William Rémy is still in doubt due to being involved in a recent car accident.

Team news

PSG

Unai Emery's side made sure they stay right on the heels of Arsenal as they made it a second straight win in Champions League action. Les Parisiens overpowered Basel without much fuss and now only sit second in their group due to goal difference. In terms of domestic affairs, they are still chasing down Nice, but Edinson Cavani appears to be settling in finally and is ready to shoulder much of the goal-scoring responsibilities that Zlatan Ibrahimovic had assumed in prior seasons.

Les Parisiens have a great track record here, making Le Classique a highly unbalanced fixture in recent times. In terms of personnel, Emery will still have to make do without Javier Pastore, and Angel Di Maria, who was subbed off during the tie with Basel, will have to be assessed due to a back complaint. They come into this game off the back of a four match winning streak - which is Emery's best record so far since joining the club earlier this summer.

Marseille

Marseille has gone some dramatic changes this season - starting from the top. Currently under the ownership of American businessman Frank McCourt as of October 17th, the visitors also have a new man on the tactician's bench. Former Roma boss Rudi Garcia, who also managed Lille, was appointed as the new manager in lieu of Franck Passi and now will be tasked with trying to revive the club's fortunes.

Making one's managerial debut during Le Classique is never an easy task, but such is the responsibility facing Garcia this weekend. The visitors will be missing Abou Diaby, Rémy Cabella as well as William Vainqueur due to injury, but that aside, the odds are truly stacked against them. One will have to go all the way back to November 27, 2011 to note the last time Marseille beat PSG. Since then, the best result they have achieved was a 2-2 stalemate on October 7, 2012
