Cristiano Ronaldo’s substitution in the 72nd minute of Real Madrid’s clash with Las Palmas on Saturday sent football fans all over the world into a frenzy. While some fans believed that coach Zinedine Zidane made the right decision to sub the Portugal captain, some claimed that the decision to bench him was the main reason Los Blancos conceded a late goal to send the two sides to a 2-2 draw at the final whistle. In fact, a recent online poll conducted by popular Spanish newspaper AS revealed that 83% of fans supported Zidane’s decision to sub the 31-year-old super star.

But as Ronaldo walked off the pitch on Saturday head bent, his facial expression clearly showed that he did not expect to be substituted. The ex-Man Utd man rarely comes off as a substitute unless injured but Saturday’s tactical substitution by Zizou seemed to have irked him. CR7’s mother, Dolores Aveiro, sent him a passionate and encouraging message on Twitter.
