Match facts and other historical stats - Lazio vs. Juventus

  • The Biancocelesti haven't scored versus the Bianconeri in Serie A action since January 2014
  • Since then they've conceded ten goals in just four games
  • The last time the Aquile beat La Vecchia Signora (excluding Coppa Italia ties) was on December 6, 2003

Team news

Lazio

Lazio will be coming into this match having won their season opener. From a neutral perspective, the match, which resulted in a 4-3 victory against Atalanta, was an entertaining roller-coaster ride from start to finish. However, whilst there were positive signs, including racing into a three goal lead in just over 30 minutes, Lazio's defensive frailties were on full display as they nearly threw it all away in the second half.

Having finished in a disappointing 8th place last season, the Aquile are now under the guidance of a new manager. Simone Inzaghi - the younger brother of famous striker Pippo - will be looking to help the Biancocelesti further improve this term. With a young and ambitious squad - the majority of the starting line-up in last week's game were 24 and younger - it looks set to be a very interesting campaign for Lazio supporters. However, next up for them will be a team that they have not beaten in Serie A in over ten years, and have further strengthened an already formidable squad with some notable acquisitions during this summer's transfer market.

Juventus

Last season, Juventus were given a rude awakening as they lost their first match at home. This time around, the Bianconeri were going to make sure that did not happen. Being the most expensive signing in Serie A history is certainly going to put a great deal of pressure on a player's shoulders, but so far, Gonzalo Higuain has endeared himself to Bianconeri fans with the game winner against Fiorentina last weekend. And given his impressive track record against Lazio - with 11 goals in six appearances - it will be interesting to see if he again comes on as a sub or is given a start alongside compatriot Paulo Dybala.

Despite selling Paul Pogba to Manchester United and seeing Alvaro Morata return to Real Madrid, the reigning Serie A champions have brought in some formidable reinforcements. In addition to the aforementioned Higuain, there's Miralem Pjanic from Roma, Mehdi Benatia from Bayern and Dani Alves from Barcelona. Of the three, only Alves has already featured competitively for his new side, but Pjanic could likely make his debut this Saturday.

Broadcast info - Napoli vs. AC Milan

Who's playing: After a disappointing result on matchday one, Napoli will be eager to get back on track against an AC Milan side who will be cautiously happy with their own outcome from their first game of the season.

What time: Saturday, August 27th at 11:45 PST/14:45 EST/18:45 UTC/19:45 BST/20:45 CET

What stadium: Napoli's home ground, the Stadio San Paolo, will be hosting this Saturday evening fixture. At full capacity, it can seat up to 60,240 fans.

Match facts and other historical stats - Napoli vs. AC Milan

  • The last time Napoli and AC Milan met on matchday two was during the 1962/1963 season, which resulted as a 5-1 win for the Rossoneri
  • The Partenopei have not lost to the Diavolo at the Stadio San Paolo since October 25, 2010
  • Inter Milan were the last side to beat Napoli at their home ground (2-0 in the Coppa Italia quarter-final on January 19, 2016)

Team news

Napoli

Losing Gonzalo Higuain, who scored a whopping 36 goals last season, was always going to be a major blow for Napoli and their title ambitions. The Partenopei did bring in Polish striker Arkadiusz Milik, but the former Ajax man will take time to settle in a new league. Meanwhile, fans will be a bit uneasy following the team's performance against newly promoted Pescara. In a game that they were expected to win without much fuss, it was Napoli who had to fight back from two goals down to salvage a point and avoid an embarrassing loss.

Dries Mertens, who had floated in and out of the starting XI last term, was the hero on the evening as he netted a brace shortly after coming on as a second-half substitute. As such, the Belgian could be rewarded with a starting berth for this fixture.

AC Milan

A new season has brought yet another new coach for the Rossoneri. Vincenzo Montella represents the sixth manager for AC Milan since January 2014, and the ex-Sampdoria and Fiorentina coach will be hoping to achieve what his predecessors could not: to secure European football for the fallen giants. This is the third straight year for the Diavolo without continental competition, and having finished just outside a Europa League spot, the club's weary supporters will hope that this season just may be the turning point.

Carlos Bacca was the star of the show as Milan battled to a 3-2 win over Torino, and the Colombian international is now in some esteemed company:

In addition, young shot-stoper Gianluigi Donnarumma was another standout performer as he set a milestone of his own:
