Barcelona are on the verge of losing their Sponsorship deal to La Liga, according Spanish newspaper Diario AS. The publication claims that the league company La Liga, has entered negotiations with Qatar Airways to make them the league’s official sponsor.
La Liga is currently sponsored by BBVA, a Spanish banking group, but the sponsorship deal is set to end in June 2016. As a result, the league company is reportedly trying to lure the airline company to be their next official sponsor. It should also be remembered that back in October 2015, talks between Barca and Qatar Airways broke down, hence raising eyebrows about the future of the lucrative partnership between the two entities. When the talks collapsed, FCB president Jose Bartomeu was quoted as saying:
“We will not be voting on the new sponsorship deal today.
“We continue to be committed to getting the best deal possible and we have decided to continue negotiating with Qatar Airways.”
If Qatar Airways agree to sponsor La Liga, then Barcelona will be forced to start the new season without a shirt sponsor. The airline company was Barca’s first official shirt sponsor in their 111-year history. Before that, the Spaniards used to play without an official sponsor, but their shirts included Unicef’s name and logo for charity.
Meanwhile, Luis Enrique's men will be declared La Liga champions if they beat Granada this weekend. However, should they draw or lose, their rivals Real Madrid could win the league if they beat Deportivo.
