In celebration of the 100th anniversary of the Copa America inception back in 1916, a special Copa América Centenario tournament will be held in the summer in the United States.
However, the competition and its organizers could be handed a huge blow, as one of the biggest attractions – Brazil superstar Neymar – may not even feature.
The Barcelona superstar is one of South America’s most popular names in world football, and has already been featured in advertisements for the upcoming tournament.
Nonetheless, the 24-year-old’s participation in the Copa América Centenario could be blocked by his club, with Marca reporting that the Catalan giants look to ban their ace from taking part.
According to the Spanish publication, the reasoning behind the Blaugrana’s decision is they wish to avoid seeing Neymar participate in two tournaments over the summer, as he appears destined to lead the national side in the 2016 Olympics.

The summer games, being held in Rio de Janerio, will kick star on August 5th, nearly six weeks after the Copa América Centenario is due to wrap up.
The former Santos ace may only feature in the latter tournament; however, as Barcelona president Josep Maria Bartomeu feels it will be “impossible” for Neymar to represent the Selecao twice over the summer.
Although the report claims that Bartomeu will write a letter to the CFB about his wishes, Marca state that the prospect of banning Neymar from the Copa América Centenario is merely a threat at the moment.
