The ninth and tenth placed teams in the South American Qualifiers will try once and for all to leave those disgraceful spots and give their fans a bit of joy.

Things haven't been easy for Peru and Venezuela, as neither team has been able to impress any of their fans. On Thursday evening, both sides will try to change that perception when they meet at Peru's Estadio Nacional, where La Bicolor's fans will expect a win from the hosts against a depleted Venezuelan side.

Perú has been able to win only one game in this World Cup Qualifiers against Paraguay, while Venezuela has lost every match so far, forcing key players like Juan Arango to retire from the National Team, and even asking for coach Noel Sanvicente's sacking.

Perú

Coach Ricardo Gareca kicked off his stint as manager with a bang, leading the team to a third-place finish in last year's Copa América. Unfortunately, Los Incas haven't been able to replicate those results in the World Cup Qualifiers.

For this game, coach Gareca will have available his goal scoring trio of Jefferson Farfán, Claudio Pizarro and Paolo Guerrero, with the idea of recovering all the time they've lost and fight back for their first World Cup spot since 1982.

Venezuela

La Vinotinto will have to make due without their legendary midfielder and icon Juan Arango, who retired from the team due to a number of disagreements with the Venezuelan Football Federation and coach Noel Sanvicente.

Without Arango, the team will rely on the experience of Roberto Rosales, Juan Pablo Añor and newcomer Adalberto Peñaranda, who is expected to become the team's leader in years to come. Granada's striker will make his debut with La Vinotinto with high hopes set on him.

Head to head

These teams have played 31 games against each other, with Perú winning 20 times. During the  World Cup Qualifiers for the 2014 tournament, Perú defeated Venezuela in Lima with a 3-2 score line.
