Third in the standings, Los Blancos look gain ground on rivals Barca and Atletico when they host Ernesto Valverde's crew.

Spanish giants Real Madrid have not been in the greatest of forms away from home, winning only one of their last three trips in La Liga; however, Los Blanos have been a rampant side when at Santiago Bernabeu.

The 10-time Champions League winners have only lost in front of their own crowd once in the Spanish Primera Division this campaign – the 4-0 defeat in El Clasico – having won 10 out of their 12 home games this season, with one ending in a draw.

Next up for Zinedine Zidane’s boys is a clash with Athletic Club, whom they will welcome to the Spanish capital on Saturday. Will Cristiano and Co. maintain their impressive home record?

TEAM NEWS

Having dislocated his shoulder in last Sunday’s narrow 2-1 win over Granada, as confirmed by Les Merengues, the full-back will miss Saturday’s game.

However, the worries do not end there for Real Madrid, as the Brazilian defender is in danger of missing out on his side’s first-leg Champions League clash with Roma.

Additional absentees for the weekend tie from the Blancos’ camp are Gareth Bale (calf injury) and Pepe (foot).

Ernesto Valverde’s side, on the other hand, will have to do without the services of Raul Garcia, sidelined with a serious knee injury, whilst the suspended Inaki Williams and San Jose are out, just to name a few.

HEAD-TO-HEAD

In all competitions, Real Madrid have beaten Athletic Club 20 times out of their last 23 run-ins. A look at Los Blancos’ home record against Los Leones tells an ever bleaker story for Valverde’s side.

Real Madrid have won all of their last 11 meetings with the club from Basque Country at Santiago Bernabeu, scoring a whopping 27 goals along the way. In fact, Athletic Club last secured an away win against the 10-time Champions League winners back in February 2005.

Is Cristiano's conversion costing Los Blancos?

However, Los Leones must not be underestimated, as they have found the back of the net 7 times in their last 12 away games.
