Chile is getting ready to host the Copa America for an eighth time and aims to win it for a first time. The team managed by Jorge Sampaoli has only six players that see action in the domestic
Chile finished 2014 with a record of 8-3-3 which included making it to the Round of 16. They were knocked out by Brazil in penalty kicks. This year, they hold a 1-0-2 record that includes winning against the United States but lost when they faced Brazil (0-1) and Iran (0-2). They will have one last test ahead of the Copa America facing El Salvador at home on June 5th. During the tournament, they will play Ecuador, Mexico and Bolivia.
History in Copa America
Chile trails Argentina (9) as the team that has hosted the tournament more times. They have not been able to capitalize on it, but with this year's squad, that sounds like a possibility. In 1987, they finished second and four years later they barely made it on the top three. Finishing as the runner-up is something they have been able to accomplish four times. In 2011, they were eliminated by Venezuela in the quarter-finals (2-1).
Players to watch
The team is highlighted by the presence of Barcelona's goalkeeper Claudio Bravo and Arsenal's striker Alexis Sanchez. Midfielder Arturo Vidal from Juventus also brings a lot of talent to a very powerful team. Add Gary Medel's name to the mix and you have a star-studded team. Interestingly enough, there are no players from
Arturo Vidal and Claudio Bravo will be enemies in the UCL Final but teammates in the Copa America
