Chelsea decided against renewing Frank Lampard’s contract; the Blues legend donned the Blue of Manchester City FC and is now set to be part of the team’s setup for the remainder of the season. Although Lampard will miss the beginning of the MLS Season with New York City FC, he is surely going to enjoy the remaining months of the Premier League.
He scored the winner against Sunderland to help City secure a 3-2 victory. Coincidentally, the victory came on a day when Chelsea lost a fiery London derby against Tottenham Hotspur, conceding five goals in a 5-3 defeat. The three point gap closed as a result. Now, Chelsea and City are level on points, even sharing the same goal difference. City must concentrate on the FA Cup next with Sheffield Wednesday their opponent.
Even without Sergio Aguero and the remainder of their strikers, they are moving along perfectly. Super-sub Lampard might be granted a start in this match. City manager Manuel Pellegrini knows the importance of trophies and will surely target the league and cup double. Sheffield should not cause too much trouble for them.
