Talking with a radio station, the Spanish league's top executive praised both players, but he believes the Portuguese had a better year than Barcelona's player.

The President of the Spanish league, Javier Tebas, spoke about several subjects in an interview with a radio show. Among those subjects, Tebas shared his opinion about who should win this year's Ballon D'Or nomination, stating that Portuguese striker Cristiano Ronaldo would be a fair winner.

"I would give it to Cristiano Ronaldo. He has been the best player this year. Don't get me wrong, Lionel Messi also had a wonderful season, but his performance this year can't be compared with Cristiano's," Tebas stated.

Hosting both players in one of the most followed leagues around the world, Tebas previously Lionel Messi's performance years ago, when the Argentinian dominated football's scene with four straight Golden Balls. This time, the Spanish executive was more fond of Cristiano's antics during the past twelve months.

"I'm talking about this year. If you asked me the same question one or two years ago, I would have given Messi the trophy. He has been among football's elite players for quite some time now, but Cristiano's performance has been better this year. Cristiano Ronaldo deserves it for what he did with his team," Tebas added.

Currently, Cristiano Ronaldo has scored 25 goals for Real Madrid in La Liga, while Lionel Messi has netted the ball 15 times for Los Blaugranas. The award will be given on January 12th.
