The current top four in the Barclays Premier League table gives us a glimpse of just how the season might end this time around. Chelsea was arguably the most impressive side as the Blues picked up a comfortable 3-1 victory over new boys Burnley. They will now face another newly promoted side in Leicester City and Mourinho’s men are expected to put forth another dominant performance.
Man City was another side which impressed after picking a 2-0 victory over Newcastle United. David Silva opened up the account for the citizens before Sergio Aguero added another in injury time. The Etihad side will now face Liverpool with whom the citizens were involved in an intense title battle last season.
The Reds scrapped a 2-1 win in their last match against Southampton as Daniel Sturridge scored a late winner. The Englishman might soon have a new strike partner with AC Milan forward Mario Balotelli hotly linked with a move to the Anfield. But it remains to be seen whether the Italian will be able to feature on Monday.
Arsenal currently sit third in the table and despite having signed a number of star players, the Gunners are yet to hit the ground running. They faced Crystal Palace in the opening game and needed a last gasp winner from their talismanic midfielder Aaron Ramsey to pick all three points.
The Gunners failed to impress when they faced Besiktas in the Champions League playoff match which finished 0-0. Arsenal are set to face the Turkish side again in the midweek but must concentrate on their match against Everton which can prove to be a tricky tie.
Last time the two sides met the match ended in agony for Wenger and his men as Arsenal suffered a 3-0 defeat at the hands of Everton as Romelu Lukaku produced a star performance for the toffees.
Van Gaal on the other hand did not have the start many predicted he would as Man United slumped to a 2-1 defeat at the hands of Swansea City. The returning Ki Sung-Yueng and Gylfi Sigurdsson were among the scorers for the Swans and even though newly appointed captain Wayne Rooney pulled one back for the Red Devils it was not enough to land them all three points.
United will now be hoping to produce a positive performance as they face Sunderland on Sunday. In other fixtures Harry Redknapp will return to the White Hart Lane as his QPR side faces Tottenham. Last season’s FA Cup finalists Hull City will face Stoke.
Whereas Crystal Palace who despite of being linked with a number of managers for the vacant post are yet to appoint a head coach, they will face West Ham on Saturday.
