RAI 1 history, coverage, features
RAI 1—formerly known as Rai Uno—is a public digital terrestrial television channel owned by the Italian government and operated through RAI. The generalist network was launched in January 1954 and broadcasts in standard definition (576i); however, a high definition version of the channel known as Rai 1 HD was launched in October 2013 and it broadcasts in 1080i quality.Both SD and HD versions of RAI 1 are available on satellite in Italy and neighboring countries, as well as online locally on Rai’s over-the-top (OTT) service. Since its existence, Rai 1 has covered multiple sporting disciplines, including Formula 1, football, and volleyball.

RAI operates several free-to-air TV networks, including Rai 1, Rai 2, Rai 3, Rai 4, and Rai 5.
