Tottenham have grown into one of England’s best teams. One reason for that is their rock-solid defense. They have conceded only 14 goals this season in the Premier League, the best in England.
On Saturday, they will travel to face Man City, a team whose defensive woes have cost them their shot at the title. With Kompany missing a lot of games through injury, the Citizens have conceded the most goals from the top six teams so far.
As a result, it’s understandable why Guardiola would be looking to Pochettino’s crew for defensive reinforcements. According to Goal, the Spaniard looks to pry two rising English full-backs from Spurs: Kyle Walker and Danny Rose.
As stated in the report, Guardiola identified full-backs as two additions needed over the summer, but their attempts to lure Walker and Rose failed. Man City will rekindle their interest in the Three Lions duo next summer, but might face difficulties landing their targets.
Hector Bellerin was another option, but his contract extension with Arsenal ended any possible move. Valencia's Jose Luis Gaya is also a candidate, with the Citizens leading Arsenal in the chase for the Spanish left-back.
Pablo Zabaleta, Bacary Sagna and Gael Clichy – Man City’s veteran full-backs – won’t be offered contract extensions. This means the trio are likely to leave the Etihad in the upcoming summer transfer window.
Walker and Rose are top priority, however. Man City are willing to pay £60m for the duo, but Daniel Levy would make Man City pay double that amount for the full-backs who signed five-year contracts earlier this season.
