La Vinotinto desperately needs to add points to their tally if they want to go to their first-ever World Cup, but playing against Chile will be quite challenging for Noel Sanvicente's men.

After five games in the South American World Cup Qualifiers, neither Chile nor Venezuela have seen things going their way. La Roja saw their former coach step down as their manager, while Venezuela hasn't been able to win a single game while saying goodbye to one of their legendary players. With that in mind, both teams will search for a win on Tuesday, since time seems to be running out for both of them.

Venezuela saw their two-goal lead stripped from them by Peru during the last minute of stoppage time, while Chile wasn't able to hold on to their early lead and ended up losing their 5th round match against Argentina. }

As of now, Chile is ranked 6th among CONMEBOL's teams, while Venezuela hasn't been able to leave the final spot of the Qualifiers since the games began.

After four games without any points to their name, things seemed to be on a roll for Venezuela against Perú, but their shaky defense ended up costing them the game. Sanvicente's defenders have allowed 13 goals in the WCQ, the most by any CONMEBOL team. If they wish to stand a chance against the Chileans, their defense must go under a massive transformation, since their current lineup doesn't seem to be working.

La Roja had a few problems putting together their most-talented squad for these couple of games. Without Vidal, Valdivia and many more players, newly appointed coach Juan Pizzi had to call up a couple of footballers from the Chilean league right after the game against Argentina. Although their game against Venezuela could seem easy on paper, the lack of knowledge of a new system could prove to be costly for Los Andinos, so the Spanish manager might want to go with what most of his players know instead of forcing his new approach on them.

Head to head

Venezuela and Chile have played 25 games against each other, including friendlies. The Chileans have dominated their meetings against La Vinotinto with 18 wins and five draws, leaving only two wins for Venezuela. Chile's won the last three games against their hosts, including a 5-0 blowout during their last meeting.
