Liverpool will look to keep the pressure on Premier League leaders Chelsea when they travel to West Ham on Sunday.

The story so far

The battle atop the Premier League table is already shaping up and on Sunday, Liverpool will hope to add to the intensity when they travel to West Ham. The Reds have been on a steady trajectory since the start of the ongoing campaign and still remain the only club yet to taste defeat in the competition. The Merseysiders will go into the upcoming encounter with the sole objective to cut down the point deficit between them and leaders Chelsea to just one after seeing the gap rise to five following their 2-2 draw with Brighton & Hove Albion in their last outing. A draw between the Blues and Burnley on Saturday has made the prospect for Jurgen Klopp's men to right their wrongs swiftly a possibility.

However, Manchester City's 2-0 win over Manchester United has relegated Liverpool into third position with just a point separating the pair. But that is not expected to last for long with the form of the latter suggesting that they could get the better of a high-flying West Ham side. The Reds defeated Atletico Madrid 2-0 at Anfield in mid-week and are well on course to extend their unbeaten run in competitive matches to 26. The last time they were on the wrong end of a scoreline was against Real Madrid in the UEFA Champions League quarter-final in April 6.

The above withstanding, it is no secret that West Ham will have to come out all guns blazing to get a favorable result against the former Premier League champions. The Hammers have punched above their weight in the ongoing campaign and there are no indications of them digressing any time soon. After 10 matches in the league, David Moyes' side have accumulated 20 points, losing and drawing on two occasions apiece. They currently sit in fourth position and could make the break into the top three should they put Liverpool to the sword on Sunday.

They approach the game on the back of a 2-2 draw against Genk in the UEFA Europa League, a tie they could have practically won had it not been for a late own-goal by Tomas Soucek. Prior to that, the London club had defeated Aston Villa 4-1 at the Villa Park and had also knocked out Manchester City from the Carabao Cup via penalty shoot-out. So far, they are unbeaten in nine of their last 10 outings, only losing to Manchester United in the Premier League within that period.

Team news

Both Andriy Yarmolenko and Nikola Vlasic were injured in the midweek draw against Genk and are uncertain for this game.

For Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has stated that Roberto Firmino had a "severe" hamstring injury in midweek, while Curtis Jones is out with an eye injury and Joe Gomez is nursing a calf problem. Naby Keita, James Milner, and Harvey Elliott are all sidelined with respective injuries as well.

Predicted starting XI

West Ham United: Fabianski; Johnson, Zouma, Ogbonna, Cresswell; Rice, Soucek; Bowen, Fornals, Benrahma; Antonio.

Liverpool: Alisson; Alexander-Arnold, Konate, Van Dijk, Robertson; Henderson, Fabinho, Thiago; Salah, Jota, Mane.
