Los Diablos Rojos will be desperate to put their 15-game winning drought to an end in the Copa Sudamericana.
Independiente of Argentina take on Liverpool of Uruguay in what promises to be an enticing Copa Sudamericana Round of 16 first leg clash at the Libertadores de America stadium in Avellaneda, Buenos Aires, on Tuesday.

Los Diablos Rojos advanced to this phase of the competition at the expense of Argentine giants Boca Juniors, and will be looking to take a giant step towards the final eight of the competition with a positive result against the Uruguayans.

Independiente, who have fallen deep into the relegation zone of the Argentine First Division since the arrival of new coach Ruben Gallego, understands the importance of doing well in South America's second-tier club competition, but is more concerned of his team's position on the domestic front.

For that exact reason he has decided to select a starting eleven mixed with starters and reserves for the contest.

"I will use the best I have, but don't expect nine starters," said Gallego, whose side haven't claimed a single victory in their last 15 games.

Rivals Liverpool, on the other hand, have gone from strength to strength in the Uruguayan championship and dispatched of Colombian outfit Envigado in the previous phase of the Copa Sudamericana.

Liverpool, who unlike Independiente, have little history in international competitions, are hoping to pull off an upset against the seven-time Copa Libertadores champions.

Captain Carlos Macchi affirmed that Liverpool are ready to "continue to think big" in the competition, as Uruguay's only remaining representative after the eliminations of Nacional and Danubio.

Meanwhile, in Tuesday's other Round of 16 clash Tigre of Argentina travel to Ecuador to do battle with locals Deportivo Quito.

The Argentines will be hoping to withstand the effects of the high altitude at the Atahualpa stadium, in order to return home with a positive result from their visit.
