Manchester United vs New York Cosmos will be broadcasted live and in HD on FOX Soccer on Friday, August 5. The Paul Scholes Testimonial match kicks off at 2:30pm ET.
Brazilian legend and king of world football Pele is New York Cosmos’ honorary president whereas former Manchester United number 7 jersey player Eric Cantona is the team’s Soccer Director. Pele and Cantona reportedly teamed up to select stars ahead of Friday’s anticipated friendly against Manchester United as Paul Scholes aims to celebrate his playing days in style at Old Trafford.

Pele and Eric Cantona’s re-born New York Cosmos will feature the following stars in their roster: Manchester City’s Wayne Bridge and Patrick Vieira, Manchester United’s retired veteran Gary Neville, 2006 World Cup star and retired legend Fabio Cannavaro, Tottenham Hotspur’s Brad Friedel and more.

During his 17-year career at Manchester United, Paul Scholes won numerous collective trophies amid a few individual ones. He made a total of 676 appearances and scored as many as 150 goals for the Red Devils. One of his most important goals among his many strikes was his long range shot against Barcelona in the semi-finals of the 2007/08 UEFA Champions League.

Paul Scholes’ international career was less illustrious, though. The midfielder experienced a rather short career for England between 1997 and 2004, featuring 66 times and scoring 14 goals. He netted his last international goal on June 21, 2004 as the Three Lions faced Croatia during the 2004 European Championship in Portugal.

Paul Scholes retired from club football at the end of last season as Manchester United won their 19th English Premier League before finishing runners-up to Barcelona in the final of the UEFA Champions League at Wembley.
