El Tri will face a familiar foe in a warmup match with players that will be included in the CONCACAF Gold Cup and the 2020 Olympics.

Mexico and Panama are set to lock horns in what should be an entertaining game to watch this Wednesday.

The Mexican side is preparing to defend their Gold Cup title, while their younger players will also benefit from this game ahead of the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. With that in mind, coach Gerardo Martino decided to call up some of his most experienced players to help the youngsters prepare for their upcoming competition.

The Mexican squad will enter this game with players such as Guillermo Ochoa, Héctor Moreno, and striker Henry Martín as their most experienced footballers. On the younger side of the squad, talented players such as Sebastián Córdova, Johan Vásquez, Diego Lainez, and Eduardo Aguirre will try to show their worth not only with the Olympics in mind, but also to be considered by coach Martino for other competitions.

As for Panama, Los Canaleros will enter this game with Danish coach Thomas Christiansen at the helm, in what could be seen as a risky bet. The Central American side will make it to this game preparing for the CONCACAF Gold Cup, where they will be sharing group with Honduras, Grenada, and Qatar. The team, which has been living a reconstruction process since 2018, will feature players such as Anibal Godoy, Alberto Quintero, and Gabriel Torres as their veteran foot, while Adalberto Carrasquilla and Andrés Andrade will be some of their new faces.

Mexico and Panama have played 21 games against each other, with El Tri owning a commanding lead over Los Canaleros after beating them in 14 of those games. Panama's only wins against Mexico came during the 2013 Gold Cup, where they beat El Tri in the group stage and in the tournament's semi-finals. Since then, Mexico has won their most recent five meetings, with only one of those taking place in a competitive game.
