The German defender will not be sanctioned for his celebration against Cardiff City.

The English FA will not punish Shkodran Mustafi for his goal celebration in Arsenal 3-2 win over Cardiff on Sunday. The defender headed home a corner-kick by Granit Xhaka and resorted to making the Albanian double-headed eagle gesture while he ran towards his teammate in celebration.

The celebration raised a lot of questions with some suggesting that it carried a political message as both Xhaka and Mustafi are of Albanian descent.

Back at the 2018 World Cup in Russia the former, alongside Xherdan Shaqiri, was fined by FIFA for using the same celebration after scoring for Switzerland against Serbia. It was believed by many to be a deliberate provocation to Serbian supporters.

According to the Daily Mail, the main reason why the FA decided not to sanction Mustafi was that his celebration was not directed at the opponent. Also, it was partly due to the fact that unlike the Xhaka and Shaqiri incidents which took place on the world stage, Mustafi's happened in the English Premier League.
