Both Holland and England have met on seven separate occasions since Euro '96 but the tide seems to be austerely in favor of the Dutch. Friday’s game’s host has won three of such meetings and has drawn on four occasions.
The recent encounter between the two sides was played in March 2016 – a game which the Netherlands won by two goals to one despite Jamie Vardy putting England ahead at Wembley. Perhaps, with the newest additions hoping to fight for a World Cup place, Gareth Southgate could finally lead the Three Lions to victory.
Nick Pope, James Tarkowski, Alfie Mawson and Lewis Cook have all been giving the nod to impress whereas the likes of Chris Smalling, Gary Cahill, and Michael Keane have been dropped after a string of insipid performances in recent weeks. For the Netherlands, the promising Justin Kluivert, Marco Bizot, Guus Til, Hans Hateboer, and striker Wout Weghorst, have all been handed the opportunity to get their first cap.
