Roma managed to shock most of Europe by topping their group, which was no easy feat as Group C also contained Chelsea and Atletico Madrid. Most expected the Giallorossi to finish in third and be featuring in the Europa League, but Eusebio Di Francesco, who is leading a team in the Champions League for the first time, has done quite well thus far and thansk to finishing top of his quartet, avoided taking on Barcelona in the round of 16.
However, Shakhtar won't be pushovers, to say the least. The Ukrainian outfit finished second in a group that contained Manchester City and Napoli, and even beat both the Sky Blues and the Partenopei at home. Furthermore, they, too, will be pleased that they didn't get the likes of Barcelona or PSG as a group winner and will feel that Roma will be a more manageable opponent - especially as the Giallorossi are the only side they have beaten at this juncture.
On paper at least, this appears to be one of the more balanced round of 16 ties. Will Roma get revenge on Shakhtar for their 2011 defeat? Or will the hosts again get the better of the Giallorossi 7 years later?
