Their tie in United States will be only their second meeting outside of Spain. Here's everything you need to know about their first.

Real Madrid and Barcelona are set to lock horns during the pre-season. Although this game is a friendly, fans and the media – especially those in Spain – are excited for this clash between the country’s two bitter rivals.

This will be their first meeting in United States, playing in Miami to their growing fan base outside of Spain. However, this will not be the first Clasico held outside of their home country.

It may be far out of memory – unsurprisingly so – as their first international Clasico occurred 35 years ago. The location: Barquisimeto, Venezuela. The year: 1982. The occasion: the Copa Presidente de la Republica.

Unlike their Miami clash, which was preparation for the upcoming season, Los Blancos and the Blaugrana faced off in an end-of-season clash back in 1982. It was World Cup year, as players were gearing up for the tournament in Spain.

The two rivals locked horns in a third-place play off. Real Madrid were led by Vicente del Bosque, with Miguel Angel Remon playing between the sticks. Maradona had signed for the Catalan giants for a then record fee, but the Argentine legend did not play in that clash.

Barcelona had legendary captain Migueli and Allan Simonsen in their squad. Udo Lattek was manager of the Blaugrana, having won European Cup Winners' Cup that same year.

The game finished 1-0 in Real Madrid’s favor, with Del Bosque scoring the only goal. The World Cup-winning Spanish manager headed in the only goal of the day in the seventh minute.

Unfortunately, that game did little to entertain. El Clasico in Venezuela was labeled “sad” and “not too entertaining”. Del Bosque even admitted that the players who made the trip were the backups.

Things could be different this time around. Although Cristiano Ronaldo is absent, the likes of Bale, Benzema, Neymar, Messi, and Suarez are all present in Florida. El Clasico Miami promises to be an entertaining one.
