Man City could find themselves in big trouble for the upcoming season, as the Citizens are facing a possible transfer ban – similar to the one Barca, Real Madrid, and Atletico were slapped with.
The Premier League giants have been accused of breaking the rules regarding the signing of a foreign teenager player. Velez Sarsfield are the accusers after losing a 16-year-old to the English club.
According to the Telegraph, the Argentine club lodged a complaint to FIFA about Man City after Premier League side signed Benjamin Garré from the South American side. Football’s world governing body rejected the case only for Velez to take their fight to the Court for Arbitration of Sport.
The case will be heard next week, with CAS set to convene on Monday to hear Velez Sarsfield’s case. If Man City are found guilty, it is most likely that Guardiola’s side will be banned from signing players for a specific duration – probably two transfer windows.
Garré’s former club claims Man City approached him when he was 15 before signing him a year later. Velez argue that FIFA rules permit players under 18 to move between clubs only in European countries. Football’s world governing body ruled in the Citizens’ favor because the player holds an Italian passport,
Velez Sarsfield are not satisfied with that ruling and will hope for a favorable outcome from CAS. It could take several weeks before a decision will be made on this case.
