Although he would have preferred a team accolade over an individual award, Jurgen Klopp nonetheless celebrates his one-year anniversary at Liverpool with an English Premier League Manager of the Month prize.
The German boss was named the best tactician in England for the month of September, beating out the likes of Pep Guardiola of Man City, Mauricio Pochettino of Tottenham, Arsene Wenger of Arsenal, and Alan Pardew of Crystal Palace.
The former BVB boss became the first German to clinch this award in the Premier League’s history after guiding the Reds to three wins out of three in the previous month.
Those three victories included a 4-1 thrashing of reigning champions Leicester City, a decisive 2-1 win over Chelsea at Stamford Bridge, and 5-1 battering of Hull City.
Klopp later revealed that this recognition belong not to him alone, but to his entire coaching staff, saying (as per the Premier League’s official website):
"I went into the office of my coaches and said, 'We are Manager of the Month! I don't need personal prizes but it's nice now I have another one'.
"We are on a good way but there are so many good teams in this league and so many difficult games for us, which we have to be ready for. I'm fine with the moment, but we have to play a few more games and hopefully we perform well."
Last season saw Klopp’s boys suffer heartbreak, losing the Europa League final to Sevilla. This campaign, however, sees the Merseyside giants in fourth and in the mix for the league crown.
Liverpool return to action in the Premier League on Monday when they host Man United in a highly-anticipated clash.
