Two of Germany’s stars at the ongoing European Championship have been ruled out of the semi-finals of the tournament.

As Germany prepare to face the winner between France and Iceland on Thursday in the semi-finals of the European Championship, Joachim Low will have to come up with a plan B following the latest injury news from his camp. Mario Gomez is set to miss the remainder of the competition in France due to a muscle tear while Bastian Schweinsteiger and Sami Khedira are doubtful for the clash.

Gomez, 30, was substituted in the dying moments of the Germany vs Italy quarter-final match on Saturday. Schweinsteiger, 31, picked up a knee injury while Khedira, 29, could miss the semis due to a groin problem.

But what would the absence of these three key players mean for Die Mannschaft in their tie against the winner between Les Bleus and Iceland? We break down their stats at the European Championship so far.

Khedira in action for Germany at the Euro 2016Khedira in action for Germany at the Euro 2016With two goals to his name so far, Mario Gomez is the greatest injury blow to Joachim Low’s side in this competition. The injury-prone captain Bastian may have found the back of the net once in the competition but has been starting as a substitute, and his absence may not have a huge impact to his team. Khedira, on the other hand, has been influential at the midfield having created nine chances, one less than Gomez, something that could give Low more reason to scratch his head more than he scratches other parts of his body in search for a plan B.
