With Italian manager Antonio Conte set to arrive at Chelsea after guiding Italy to the Euro 2016, reports suggest that the incoming Blues boss is already plotting a new-look attack.
According to Spanish journalist Guillecm Balague, the London giants may consider selling fiery striker Diego Costa in order to aid their pursuit of Serie A goalscoring machine Gonzalo Higuain.
The former Atletico Madrid forward struggled to find the back of the net for the first half of the campaign despite a stellar debut season. Costa’s form gravely improved after the appointment of interim boss Guus Hiddink, though, having scored nine and assisted five in his last 14 games.
Nonetheless, the article in AS claims that the 27-year-old “wants to leave Chelsea”, with former employers Rojiblancos keen on resigning the Brazilian-born attacker.
The report states that Conte will not block Costa’s route out of Stamford Bridge, given that the fallen Premier League heavyweights are able to land key target: Gonzalo Higuain.
The Albiceleste ace enjoyed a very impressive 2015/16 campaign, unlike Costa, having scored a whopping 33 goals in the domestic league alone to help Partenopei mount a serious challenge for the Scudetto crown.
Having scored 42 times in all competitions this season, the former Real Madrid hitman won’t come cheap, as the Argentine could cost Chelsea €48m.
