Barcelona defender Gerard Pique has revealed that he would love to face their rivals Real Madrid in the final of the UEFA Champions League. The two bitter rivals clashed last Saturday at the Nou Camp in an entertaining match that saw Zinedine Zidane’s men defeat the hosts thanks to goals from Karim Benzema and Cristiano Ronaldo.
As the Catalan giants prepare to host another Madrid bigwig Atletico Madrid in the quarter-finals of the Champions League today, their star defender Pique is relishing an El Clasico final as the perfect platform to revenge against the Santiago Bernabeu outfit.
But first things first, Los Blaugrana need to whizz past Diego Simeone’s men, who will be inspired by their city neighbour’s win at the same venue four days ago. Pique opened the scoring for Luis Enrique’s men but Karim Benzema’s reply and Ronaldo’s late effort denied the hosts not only victory, but also the bragging rights.
The 29-year-old was speaking during a pre-match press briefing. He said:
"I would like to face Madrid in the Champions League final.''
He added:
"Anyone would want to play them and we should have more confidence, such is the legacy of [Johan] Cruyff."What we like are challenges, and again we play on Tuesday against a great rival. We have to win to show why we have won everything and are looking forward to doing it again."
